I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. We had a precious time celebrating with family and friends. We were celebrating lots of wonderful occasions on top of Memorial Day – graduations, promotions, new home, new beginnings! We have so much to be grateful for!
In the United States, Memorial Day is set aside each year to remember those that have sacrificed their lives for us.
Fallen soldiers.
Men and women that often don’t have a name to us individually…
Those who loved this country enough to risk their lives for you and I to experience the freedom that we do on a daily basis.
As I paused to think about Memorial Day and all that it represents I was compelled to think..
Who are these people?
Why would they do this for us? That they don’t even know us…
Granted, most soldiers probably don’t enlist thinking that they’re going to sacrifice their lives. But I have to believe in the process of serving, most have to make the decision if they’re willing.
The men and women that gave their lives up for us – are true heroes. I personally want to thank every veteran that dared to be willing to risk their life for the sake of our country. That depth of love is deeply admirable and incomprehensible.
May God bless you abundantly for your heart and service.
The Bible says:
There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.. (John 15:13 NLT)
I had a little more to say but after reading it I just hit “delete.” Any more seems disrespectful and dishonoring.
Dear Lord –
Please bless the men and women, soldiers and civilians. that laid down their lives that we may live.
Amen.
Have a blessed week friends!

Amen! Such true words! Let us remember them more than once a year.
Char says
Honestly Rebecca – they need our support and prayers….continually!

This was a wonderful reminder that while the rest of us are having barbecues and picnics, families of fallen soldiers are not celebrating on Memorial Day. I often type something, then upon reflection, hit delete too. Editing can be a good thing! 🙂

“Thank you” seems pretty superficial when you put a face beyond the name…
Maree Dee says
Yes, God bless them and their families. Thank you for honoring them. Maree
Michele Morin says
This is such a great tribute, Char. No matter what our politics or our opinion of our country’s state of mind at any given point, we are blessed by freedom which is a hard-won commodity and not to be taken for granted.
Char says
That’s a good point Michele. Politics doesn’t exactly matter – it boils down to the sacrifice of sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, all heroes.
Debbie Putman says
A beautiful tribute and reminder.

They are simple everyday people like me (U.S. Navy, 1990-1994, Persian Gulf I) who have various reasons for enlisting. The thing is that whatever someones reason for enlisting you develop a sense of pride for this country.
Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week. Nice tribute to all for those you have lost their lives defending this country.
Char says
Thank you for your service Patrick!
