Oh my! Another Mother’s Day is right around the corner… Mother’s Day is one of those “made up” holidays… As Dad would say. But isn’t he the sweetest on Mother’s Day!? It’s like I’m his mom! He honors me like a cherished queen. It’s so adorable! I try to remind him every year that I’m not his mom… But I think he just loves his family so much he can’t help himself!!
So….my sweet child, Happy Mother’s Day! Without you I wouldn’t be a mom!
One of my most precious memories is when you were a baby and you extended your arms towards me – hopeful that I would bend down and pick you up.. and as I did, you’d wrap your arms around my neck tightly and just squeeze! The tenderness of that cherished embrace was one that only a mom or dad can experience with their child.
In that sweet cuddle, you claimed me as your mother.
It was funny, sometimes I would literally hold my arms out to my side, and in your monkey embrace, you wouldn’t budge a bit! We’d both break out in laughter at the silliness as I’d twirl around in a circle!
That sweet connection is something that I still feel – even though you’re all grown up. It’s as if I know you like nobody else does. And you me.
I know God hand-picked you for me. Being your mom has been a life journey chock-full of lessons. We’ve grown up together – albeit in different generations. And though I never wished for a single day that you were not my child – I wished time and time again, that I had the magic key to unlock the world for you. But I didn’t. And so we had to trek thru life together… Me figuring out how to work best with you and you returning the favor! I needed all the patience you offered. And still do! Especially now, more than ever, as I understand the boundaries of being a parent of an adult.
So….my sweet child, Happy Mother’s Day! Because of you and our relationship, my life has been blessed with abundant joy and deep meaning/purpose. I can’t even imagine who I would be if it weren’t for you. You have taught me so much – not just from being your mother, but from watching you and learning from you.
As your Mom it has been so much fun to watch you grow into the young person you are. You are stronger than you know. I’m proud of you! I’m proud of how you have recovered from your mistakes and not let them keep you down. Failure is giving up and I know you will never give up. You try, you stumble, you get up and you go on! What more could Mamma want?! We are never fully “there” until we see Jesus face to face! So keep on trekking!
My prayer is that one day you are blessed with delightful children who love you and love the Lord. Being a parent changes a person. One of the greatest privileges on earth is having a glimpse of God‘s love for me as I have parented you. There is no other love that even compares to a parent’s love for their child. I can’t wait for you to experience the depth of that love!
So…. my child, Happy Mother’s Day! You have given me a great gift in being a part of my life. And as you grow up and grow your own family, it is a wonderful blessing to watch you, and cheer you on, from this amazingly wonderful and unique perspective.

Wonderful letter to your son/daughter. I have 3 sons, and now 3 grandsons too. It’s so rewarding watching my sons grow into parenthood. And so much fun to play with grandchildren now that I have more spare time than when I was a busy young mother!

I wrote a letter to my oldest daughter on her first birthday that’s similar to this concept. I sealed it up and left it in her baby book for her to find one day. Love this idea!!

That is precious! What a treasure to your daughter. I want to be fun to read it years later?
